The cemetery is located just south of the Waterville City limits — south east corner. Take the road south of Waterville — known as the Waterville South Road — about 1/4 of a mile.  At the first left/east turn, before you get to Sandpipe Hill. just as you reach the base of Standpipe Hill, take an unmarked dirt road that goes straight left (not the one that angles up the hill). Proceed about one quarter mile to the cemetery, which has no sign or marking. Nearly all stones are flat, so from any distance the cemetery appears to be a closely cut square amidst the wheat fields which surround it on all sides.It cannot be recognized as a cemetery until you are inside it.

Gate of Heaven Cemetery burials date back to around 1905. It started as the cemetery for Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Waterville. It now has been turned over to the Douglas County Cemetery District #2. The church still has say as to who is buried there and also keeps records.(The McGrath graves were moved from Kummer Cemetery (Catholic Section) to Gate of Heaven Cemetery in December 1923. There are probably others.

No need to use ‘wildcard’ characters in your search, the filters do that automatically. Therefore, don’t put too much info into either of the search boxes; it could cause nothing to be found. Start with just a few characters in the search boxes.

Click the ‘Name’ column which has the ‘+’ sign on the left to better view data for that row in a dialog box window rather than the wrapped text in each cell of the table.

You can PRINT, download in CSV format, view a PDF, or copy to the clipboard the displayed records.

Use the ‘Show Entries’ pulldown to control how many rows of data to display on each page.  Always check the print preview and verify the number of pages you want to print.
