Stillaquamish Valley Genealogical Society October is Family History Month

October is Family History Month!

SVGS will be celebrating Family History Month all month long in October.

Every Saturday we invite you to stop by our library. Meet the librarians, have some refreshments and enter the weekly drawing and the grand prize drawing. (1 year membership to the Ancestry World Addition)

Every Saturday will have a different theme.

Saturday, October 7th – Introduction to the Library

Come for a tour, see what the library has to offer. Even if you’re a regular user of the library we are always adding to our resources. There’s always something new to discover!

Saturday, October 14th – Preserving Your Family History

Bring 10 photos, a thumb drive and use our fast photo scanner to digitize your family memories. If you don’t have USB drive, you may buy one at the library for $5. We will provide instructions for those who need some help. If you have a large collection to digitize you can always come back at later date.

Saturday, October 21st – Sharing Family History with Your Children

Bring your children or grandchildren and help them complete a basic family tree.

Suggested questions to answer will be provided.

Saturday, October 28th – SVGS Online Resources

Learn what online resources are available on our computer workstations in the Media Room. Also, a review of the resources available on our website.

If you are unable to stop by on a Saturday, come by on Tuesday or Thursday for a tour and put in an entry for our grand prize drawing on the 28th. (A year membership to Ancestry World Explorer)

Wow! Just when you thought you had linked all the genealogical research you could find…Internet Archive came along. Maybe not a new site, but have you used it?  
Here is a free site to make books available for free.  This site includes “government documents, church records, county and state histories, atlases and gazetteers, newspapers, school yearbooks and more.” Don’t miss this class!Tina Beaird is the owner of Tamarack Genealogy and is a Genealogy & Local History Librarian at the Plainfield Public Library in Plainfield, Illinois.  Tina holds a Masters of Library and Information Science degree with specialization in Archives/Preservation from Dominican University. Charlotte Noelle Champenois, AG®, originally from Allerød, Denmark, and a long-time resident of Utah, is accredited in Germany Northwest, Denmark, Sweden, and Austria and has a BA in genealogy from Brigham Young University. She is a German Research Specialist at the FamilySearch Library, where she helps guests with research and translation.
